Mahābyūhasuttavaṇṇanā

Ye kec’ime ti Mahābyūhasuttaṃ. Kā uppatti? Idam pi tasmiṃ yeva mahāsamaye “kiṃ nu kho ime diṭṭhiparibbasānā viññūnaṃ santikā nindam eva labhanti, udāhu pasaṃsam pī” ti uppannacittānaṃ ekaccānaṃ devatānaṃ tam atthaṃ āvikātuṃ purimanayena nimmitabuddhena attānaṃ pucchāpetvā vuttaṃ.

Tattha anvānayantī ti anu ānayanti, punappunaṃ āharanti.

Idāni yasmā te “idam eva saccan” ti vadantā diṭṭhigatikā vādino kadāci katthaci pasaṃsam pi labhanti, yaṃ etaṃ pasaṃsā-saṅkhātaṃ vādaphalaṃ, taṃ appaṃ rāgādīnaṃ samāya samatthaṃ na hoti, ko pana vādo dutiye nindāphale, tasmā etam atthaṃ dassento imaṃ tāva vissajjanagātham āha “appañ hi etaṃ na alaṃ samāya, duve vivādassa phalāni brūmī” ti ādi. Tattha duve vivādassa phalānī ti nindā pasaṃsā ca, jaya-parājayādīni vā taṃsabhāgāni. Etam pi disvā ti “nindā aniṭṭhā eva, pasaṃsā nālaṃ samāyā” ti etam pi vivādaphale ādīnavaṃ disvā. Khemābhipassaṃ avivādabhūmin ti avivādabhūmiṃ nibbānaṃ “kheman” ti passamāno.

Evañ hi avivadamāno “yā kāc’imā” ti gāthā. Tattha sammutiyo ti diṭṭhiyo. Puthujjā ti puthujjana-sambhavā. So upayaṃ kim eyyā ti so upagantabbaṭṭhena upayaṃ rūpādīsu ekam pi dhammaṃ kiṃ upeyya, kena vā kāraṇena upeyya. Diṭṭhe sute khantim akubbamāno ti diṭṭhasutasuddhīsu pemaṃ akaronto.

Ito bāhirā pana “sīluttamā” ti gāthā. Tass’attho sīlaṃ yeva “uttaman” ti maññamānā sīluttamā eke bhonto saṃyama-mattena suddhiṃ vadanti, hatthivatādiñ ca vataṃ samādāya upaṭṭhitā, idh’eva diṭṭhiyaṃ assa satthuno suddhin ti bhavūpanītā bhavajjhositā samānā vadanti, api ca te kusalā vadānā “kusalā mayan” ti evaṃvādā.

Evaṃ sīluttamesu ca tesu tathā paṭipanno yo koci “sace cuto” ti gāthā. Tass’attho sace tato sīlavatato paravicchandanena vā anabhisambhuṇanto vā cuto hoti, so taṃ sīlabbatādi-kammaṃ puññābhisaṅkhārādi-kammaṃvirādhayitvā pavedhatī. Na kevalañ ca vedhati, api ca kho taṃ sīlabbatasuddhiṃ pajappatī ca vippalapati patthayatī ca. Kim iva? Satthā va hīno pavasaṃ gharamhā, gharamhā pavasanto satthato hīno yathā taṃ gharaṃ vā satthaṃ vā pattheyyā ti.

Evaṃ pana sīluttamānaṃ vedhakāraṇaṃ ariyasāvako “sīlabbataṃ vāpi pahāya sabban” ti gāthā. Tattha sāvajjanavajjan ti sabbākusalaṃ lokiyakusalañ ca. Etaṃ suddhiṃ asuddhin ti apatthayāno ti pañcakāmaguṇādibhedaṃ etaṃ suddhiṃ, akusalādibhedaṃ asuddhiñ ca apatthayamāno. Virato care ti suddhiyā asuddhiyā ca virato careyya. Santim anuggahāyā ti diṭṭhiṃ agahetvā.

Evaṃ ito bāhirake sīluttame saṃyamena visuddhivāde, tesaṃ vighātaṃ, sīlabbatappahāyino arahato ca paṭipattiṃ dassetvā idāni aññathā pi suddhivāde bāhirake dassento “tamūpanissāyā” ti gātham āha.

Tass’attho sant’aññe pi samaṇabrāhmaṇā, te jigucchitaṃ amarantapaṃ vā diṭṭhasuddhi-ādīsu vā aññataraññataraṃ upanissāya akiriyadiṭṭhiyā vā uddhaṃsarā hutvā bhavābhavesu avītataṇhāse suddhim anutthunanti vadanti kathentī ti.

Evaṃ tesaṃ avītataṇhānaṃ suddhiṃ anutthunantānaṃ yo pi suddhippattam eva attānaṃ maññeyya, tassa pi avītataṇhattā bhavābhavesu taṃ taṃ vatthuṃ patthayamānassa hi jappitāni punappunaṃ honti yevā ti adhippāyo. Taṇhā hi āsevitā taṇhaṃ vaḍḍhayat’eva. Na kevalañ ca jappitāni, pavedhitaṃ vā pi pakappitesu, taṇhādiṭṭhīhi c’assa pakappitesu vatthūsu pavedhitam pi hotī ti vuttaṃ hoti. Bhavābhavesu pana vītataṇhattā āyatiṃ cutūpapāto idha yassa natthi, sa kena vedheyya kuhiṃ va jappe ti ayam etissā gāthāya sambandho. Sesaṃ Niddese vuttanayam eva.

Idāni yasmā eko pi ettha vādo sacco natthi, kevalaṃ diṭṭhimattakena hi te vadanti, tasmā tam atthaṃ dassento “sakañ hī” ti imaṃ tāva vissajjanagātham āha. Tattha sammutin ti diṭṭhiṃ.

Evam etesu sakaṃ dhammaṃ paripuṇṇaṃ bruvantesu aññassa pana dhammaṃ “hīnan” ti vadantesu yassa kassaci “parassa ce vambhayitena hīno” ti gāthā. Tass’attho yadi parassa ninditakāraṇā hīno bhaveyya, na koci dhammesu visesi aggo bhaveyya. Kiṃ kāraṇaṃ? Puthū hi aññassa vadanti dhammaṃ, nihīnato sabbe va te samhi daḷhaṃ vadānā sakadhamme daḷhavādā eva.

Kiñ ca bhiyyo “saddhammapūjā” ti gāthā. Tass’attho te ca titthiyā yathā pasaṃsanti sakāyanāni, saddhammapūjā pi nesaṃ tath’eva vattati. Te hi ativiya satthārādīni sakkaronti. Tattha yadi te pamāṇā siyuṃ, evaṃ sante sabbe va vādā tathiyā bhaveyyuṃ. Kiṃ kāraṇaṃ? Suddhī hi nesaṃ paccattam eva, na sā aññatra sijjhati, nāpi paramatthato. Attani diṭṭhigāhamattam eva hi taṃ tesaṃ parapaccaya-neyya-buddhīnaṃ.

Yo vā pana viparīto bāhitapāpattā brāhmaṇo, tassa “na brāhmaṇassa paraneyyam atthī” ti gāthā. Tass’attho brāhmaṇassa hi “sabbe saṅkhārā aniccā” ti ādinā (dha. pa. 277; netti. 5) nayena sudiṭṭhattā parena netabbaṃ ñāṇaṃ natthi, diṭṭhidhammesu “idam eva saccan” ti nicchinitvā samuggahītam pi natthi. Taṃkāraṇā so diṭṭhikalahāni atīto, na ca so seṭṭhato passati dhammam aññaṃ aññatra satipaṭṭhānādīhi.

Jānāmī ti gāthāya sambandho attho ca: evaṃ tāva paramatthabrāhmaṇo na hi seṭṭhato passati dhammam aññaṃ, aññe pana titthiyā paracittañāṇādīhi jānantā passantā pi “jānāmi passāmi tath’eva etan” ti evaṃ vadantā pi ca diṭṭhiyā suddhiṃ paccenti. Kasmā? Yasmā tesu eko pi addakkhi ce addasa ce pi tena paracittañāṇādinā yathābhūtaṃ atthaṃ, kiñ hi tumassa tena tassa tena dassanena kiṃ kataṃ, kiṃ dukkhapariññā sādhitā, udāhu samudayapahānādīnaṃ aññataraṃ, yato sabbathā pi atikkamitvā ariyamaggaṃ te titthiyā aññen’eva vadanti suddhiṃ, atikkamitvā vā te titthiye buddhādayo aññen’eva vadanti suddhin ti.

“Passaṃ naro” ti gāthāya sambandho attho ca: kiñ ca bhiyyo? Yvāyaṃ paracittañāṇādīhi addakkhi, so passaṃ naro dakkhati nāmarūpaṃ, na tato paraṃ. Disvāna vā ñassati tāni-m-eva nāmarūpāni niccato sukhato vā na aññathā. So evaṃ passanto kāmaṃ bahuṃ passatu appakaṃ vā nāmarūpaṃ niccato sukhato ca, ath’assa evarūpena dassanena na hi tena suddhiṃ kusalā vadantī ti.

“Nivissavādī” ti gāthāya sambandho attho ca: tena ca dassanena suddhiyā asatiyā pi yo “jānāmi passāmi tath’eva etan” ti evaṃ nivissavādī, etaṃ vā dassanaṃ paṭicca diṭṭhiyā suddhiṃ paccento “idam eva saccan” ti evaṃ nivissavādī, so subbinayo na hoti taṃ tathā pakappitaṃ abhisaṅkhataṃ diṭṭhiṃ purekkharāno. So hi yaṃ satthārādiṃ nissito, tatth’eva subhaṃ vadāno suddhiṃvado, “parisuddhavādo parisuddhadassano vā ahan” ti attānaṃ maññamāno tattha tath’addasā so, tattha sakāya diṭṭhiyā aviparītam eva so addasa. Yathā sā diṭṭhi pavattati, tath’eva naṃ addasa, na aññathā passituṃ icchatī ti adhippāyo.

Evaṃ pakappitaṃ diṭṭhiṃ purekkharānesu titthiyesu “na brāhmaṇo kappam upeti saṅkhā” ti gāthā. Tattha saṅkhā ti saṅkhāya, jānitvā ti attho. Na pi ñāṇabandhū ti samāpattiñāṇādinā akata-taṇhādiṭṭhi-bandhu. Tattha viggaho nāpi assa ñāṇena kato bandhu atthī ti na pi ñāṇabandhu. Sammutiyo ti diṭṭhisammutiyo. Puthujjā ti puthujjanasambhavā. Uggahaṇanti-m-aññe ti uggahaṇanti aññe, aññe tā sammutiyo uggaṇhantī ti vuttaṃ hoti.

Kiñ ca bhiyyo “vissajja ganthānī” ti gāthā. Tattha anuggaho ti uggahaṇavirahito, so pi nāssa uggaho ti anuggaho, na vā uggaṇhātī ti anuggaho.

Kiñ ca bhiyyo so evarūpo “pubbāsave” ti gāthā. Tattha pubbāsave ti atītarūpādīni ārabbha uppajjamānadhamme kilese. Nave ti paccuppannarūpādīni ārabbha uppajjamānadhamme. Na chandagū ti chandādivasena na gacchati. Anattagarahī ti katākatavasena attānaṃ agarahanto.

Evaṃ anattagarahī ca “sa sabbadhammesū” ti gāthā. Tattha sabbadhammesū ti dvāsaṭṭhidiṭṭhidhammesu “yaṃ kiñci diṭṭhaṃ vā” ti evaṃpabhedesu. Pannabhāro ti patitabhāro. Na kappetī ti na kappiyo, duvidham pi kappaṃ na karotī ti attho. Nūparato ti puthujjanakalyāṇaka-sekkhā viya uparatisamaṅgī pi na hoti. Na patthiyo ti nittaṇho. Taṇhā hi patthiyatī ti patthiyā, nāssa patthiyā ti na patthiyo ti. Sesaṃ tattha tattha pākaṭam evā ti na vuttaṃ. Evaṃ arahattanikūṭena desanaṃ niṭṭhāpesi. Desanāpariyosāne Purābhedasutte vuttasadiso evābhisamayo ahosī ti.
