Attadaṇḍasuttavaṇṇanā

Attadaṇḍā bhayaṃ jātan ti Attadaṇḍasuttaṃ. Kā uppatti? Yo so Sammāparibbājanīyasuttassa uppattiyaṃ vuccamānāya Sākiya-Koliyānaṃ udakaṃ paṭicca kalaho vaṇṇito, taṃ ñatvā Bhagavā “ñātakā kalahaṃ karonti, handa ne vāressāmī” ti dvinnaṃ senānaṃ majjhe ṭhatvā imaṃ suttam abhāsi.

Tattha paṭhamagāthāy’attho yaṃ lokassa diṭṭhadhammikaṃ vā samparāyikaṃ vā bhayaṃ jātaṃ, taṃ sabbaṃ attadaṇḍā bhayaṃ jātaṃ attano duccaritakāraṇā jātaṃ, evaṃ sante pi janaṃ passatha medhagaṃ, imaṃ Sākiyādijanaṃ passatha aññamaññaṃ medhagaṃ hiṃsakaṃ bādhakan ti. Evaṃ taṃ paṭiviruddhaṃ vippaṭipannaṃ janaṃ paribhāsitvā attano sammāpaṭipatti-dassanena tassa saṃvegaṃ janetuṃ āha “saṃvegaṃ kittayissāmi, yathā saṃvijitaṃ mayā” ti, pubbe bodhisatten’eva satā ti adhippāyo.

Idāni yathā nena saṃvijitaṃ, taṃ pakāraṃ dassento “phandamānan” ti ādim āha. Tattha phandamānan ti taṇhādīhi kampamānaṃ. Appodake ti appa-udake. Aññamaññehi byāruddhe disvā ti nānāsatte ca aññamaññehi saddhiṃ viruddhe disvā. Maṃ bhayam āvisī ti maṃ bhayaṃ paviṭṭhaṃ.

Samantam asāro loko ti nirayaṃ ādiṃ katvā samantato loko asāro niccasārādirahito. Disā sabbā sameritā ti sabbā disā aniccatāya kampitā. Icchaṃ bhavanam attano ti attano tāṇaṃ icchanto. Nāddasāsiṃ anositan ti kiñci ṭhānaṃ jarādīhi anajjhāvutthaṃ nāddakkhiṃ.

Osāne tv eva byāruddhe, disvā me aratī ahū ti yobbaññādīnaṃ osāne eva antagamake eva vināsake eva jarādīhi byāruddhe āhatacitte satte disvā arati me ahosi. Ath’ettha sallan ti atha etesu sattesu rāgādisallaṃ. Hadayanissitan ti cittanissitaṃ.

“Kathaṃānubhāvaṃ sallan” ti ce “yena sallena otiṇṇo” ti gāthā. Tattha disā sabbā vidhāvatī ti sabbā duccaritadisā pi puratthimādi-disāvidisā pi dhāvati. Tam eva sallam abbuyha, na dhāvati na sīdatī ti tam eva sallaṃ uddharitvā tā ca disā na dhāvati, caturoghe ca na sīdatī ti.

Evaṃ mahānubhāvena sallena otiṇṇesv api ca sattesu “tattha sikkhānugīyanti, yāni loke gadhitānī” ti gāthā.

Tass’attho ye loke pañca kāmaguṇā paṭilābhāya gijjhantī ti katvā “gadhitānī” ti vuccanti, cirakālāsevitattā vā “gadhitānī” ti vuccanti, tattha taṃ nimittaṃ hatthisikkhādikā anekā sikkhā kathīyanti uggayhanti vā. Passatha yāva pamatto vāyaṃ loko, yato paṇḍito kulaputto tesu vā gadhitesu tāsu vā sikkhāsu adhimutto na siyā, aññadatthu aniccādi-dassanena nibbijjha sabbaso kāme, attano nibbānam eva sikkhe ti.

Idāni yathā nibbānāya sikkhitabbaṃ, taṃ dassento “sacco siyā” ti ādim āha. Tattha sacco ti vācāsaccena ñāṇasaccena maggasaccena ca samannāgato. Rittapesuṇo ti pahīnapesuṇo. Vevicchan ti macchariyaṃ.

Niddaṃ tandiṃ sahe thīnan ti pacalāyikañ ca kāyālasiyañ ca cittālasiyañ cā ti ime tayo dhamme abhibhaveyya. Nibbānamanaso ti nibbānaninnacitto.

Sāhasā ti rattassa rāgacariyādibhedā sāhasakaraṇā.

Purāṇaṃ nābhinandeyyā ti atītarūpādiṃ nābhinandeyya. Nave ti paccuppanne. Hiyyamāne ti vinassamāne. Ākāsaṃ na sito siyā ti taṇhānissito na bhaveyya. Taṇhā hi rūpādīnaṃ ākāsanato “ākāso” ti vuccati.

“Kiṃkāraṇā ākāsaṃ na sito siyā” ti ce “gedhaṃ brūmī” ti gāthā. Tass’attho ahañ hi imaṃ ākāsa-saṅkhātaṃ taṇhaṃ rūpādīsu gijjhanato gedhaṃ brūmi “gedho” ti vadāmi. Kiñ ca bhiyyo avahananaṭṭhena “ogho” ti ca ājavanaṭṭhena “ājavan” ti ca “idaṃ mayhaṃ, idaṃ mayhan” ti jappakāraṇato “jappanan” ti ca dummuñcanaṭṭhena “ārammaṇan” ti ca kampakaraṇena “pakampanan” ti ca brūmi, esā ca lokassa palibodhaṭṭhena duratikkamanīyaṭṭhena ca kāmapaṅko duraccayo ti.

“Ākāsaṃ na sito siyā” ti evaṃ vutte vā “kim etaṃ ākāsan” ti ce? “Gedhaṃ brūmī” ti. Evam pi tassā gāthāya sambandho veditabbo. Tattha padayojanā: ākāsan ti gedhaṃ brūmī ti, tathā yvāyaṃ mahogho ti vuccati, taṃ brūmi, ājavaṃ brūmi, jappanaṃ brūmi, pakampanaṃ brūmi, yvāyaṃ sadevake loke kāmapaṅko duraccayo, taṃ brūmī ti.

Evam etaṃ gedhādi-pariyāyaṃ ākāsaṃ anissito “saccā avokkammā” ti gāthā. Tass’attho pubbe vuttā tividhā pi saccā avokkamma moneyyappattiyā munī ti saṅkhyaṃ gato nibbānatthale tiṭṭhati brāhmaṇo, sa ve evarūpo sabbāni āyatanāni nissajjitvā “santo” ti vuccatī ti.

Kiñ ca bhiyyo “sa ve vidvā” ti gāthā. Tattha ñatvā dhamman ti aniccādinayena saṅkhatadhammaṃ ñatvā. Sammā so loke iriyāno ti asammā-iriyanakarānaṃ kilesānaṃ pahānā sammā so loke iriyamāno.

Evaṃ apihento ca “yo’dha kāme” ti gāthā. Tattha saṅgan ti sattavidhaṃ saṅgañ ca yo accatari. Nājjhetī ti nābhijjhāyati.

Tasmā tumhesu pi yo evarūpo hotum icchati, taṃ vadāmi “yaṃ pubbe” ti gāthā. Tattha yaṃ pubbe ti atīte saṅkhāre ārabbha uppajjanadhammaṃ kilesajātaṃ atītakammañ ca. Pacchā te māhu kiñcanan ti anāgate pi saṅkhāre ārabbha uppajjanadhammaṃ rāgādikiñcanaṃ māhu. Majjhe ce no gahessasī ti paccuppanne rūpādidhamme pi na gahessasi ce.

Evaṃ “upasanto carissasī” ti arahattappattiṃ dassetvā idāni arahato thutivasena ito parā gāthāyo abhāsi. Tattha sabbaso ti gāthāya mamāyitan ti mamattakaraṇaṃ, “mama idan” ti gahitaṃ vā vatthu. Asatā ca na socatī ti avijjamānakāraṇā asantakāraṇā na socati. Na jīyatī ti jānim pi na gacchati.

Kiñ ca bhiyyo “yassa natthī” ti gāthā. Tattha kiñcanan ti kiñci rūpādidhammajātaṃ.

Kiñ ca bhiyyo “aniṭṭhurī” ti gāthā. Tattha aniṭṭhurī ti anissukī, “aniddhurī” ti pi keci paṭhanti. Sabbadhī samo ti sabbattha samo, upekkhako ti adhippāyo. Kiṃ vuttaṃ hoti? Yo so “natthi me” ti na socati, tam ahaṃ avikampinaṃ puggalaṃ puṭṭho samāno aniṭṭhurī ananugiddho anejo sabbadhi samo ti imaṃ tasmiṃ puggale catubbidham ānisaṃsaṃ brūmī ti.

Kiñ ca bhiyyo “anejassā” ti gāthā. Tattha nisaṅkhatī ti puññābhisaṅkhārādīsu yo koci saṅkhāro. So hi yasmā nisaṅkhariyati nisaṅkharoti vā, tasmā “nisaṅkhatī” ti vuccati. Viyārambhā ti vividhā puññābhisaṅkhārādikā ārambhā. Khemaṃ passati sabbadhī ti sabbattha abhayam eva passati.

Evaṃ passanto “na samesū” ti gāthā. Tattha na vadate ti “sadiso’ham asmī” ti ādinā mānavasena samesu pi attānaṃ na vadati omesu pi ussesu pi. Nādeti na nirassatī ti rūpādīsu kañci dhammaṃ na gaṇhāti, na nissajjati. Sesaṃ sabbattha pākaṭam eva.

Evaṃ arahattanikūṭena desanaṃ niṭṭhāpesi. Desanāpariyosāne pañcasatā Sākiyakumārā ca Koliyakumārā ca ehibhikkhupabbajjāya pabbajitā, te gahetvā Bhagavā mahāvanaṃ pāvisī ti.
