Mettagūsuttavaṇṇanā

Pucchāmi tan ti Mettagusuttaṃ. Tattha maññāmi taṃ vedaguṃ bhāvitattan ti “ayaṃ vedagū” ti ca “bhāvitatto” ti ca evaṃ taṃ maññāmi.

Apucchasī ti ettha a-iti padapūraṇamatte nipāto, pucchas’icc eva attho. Pavakkhāmi yathā pajānan ti yathā pajānanto ācikkhati, evaṃ ācikkhissāmi. Upadhinidānā pabhavanti dukkhā ti taṇhādi-upadhi-nidānā jāti-ādi-dukkhavisesā pabhavanti.

Evaṃ upadhinidānato pabhavantesu dukkhesu yo ve avidvā ti gāthā. Tattha pajānan ti saṅkhāre aniccādivasena jānanto. Dukkhassa jātippabhavānupassī ti vaṭṭadukkhassa jātikāraṇaṃ “upadhī” ti anupassanto.

Sokapariddavañ cā ti sokañ ca paridevañ ca. Tathā hi te vidito esa dhammo ti yathā yathā sattā jānanti, tathā tathā paññāpanavasena vidito esa dhammo ti.

Kittayissāmi te dhamman ti nibbānadhammaṃ nibbānagāminipaṭipadādhammañ ca te desayissāmi. Diṭṭhe dhamme ti diṭṭhe dukkhādidhamme, imasmiṃ yeva vā attabhāve. Anītihan ti attapaccakkhaṃ. Yaṃ viditvā ti yaṃ dhammaṃ “sabbe saṅkhārā aniccā” ti ādinā nayena sammasanto viditvā.

Tañ cāhaṃ abhinandāmī ti taṃ vuttapakāradhammajotakaṃ tava vacanaṃ ahaṃ patthayāmi. Dhammam uttaman ti tañ ca dhammam uttamaṃ abhinandāmī ti.

Uddhaṃ adho tiriyañ cāpi majjhe ti ettha uddhan ti anāgataddhā vuccati, adho ti atītaddhā, tiriyañ cāpi majjhe ti paccuppannaddhā. Etesu nandiñ ca nivesanañ ca, panujja viññāṇan ti etesu uddhādīsu taṇhañ ca diṭṭhinivesanañ ca abhisaṅkhāraviññāṇañ ca panudehi, panuditvā ca bhave na tiṭṭhe, evaṃ sante duvidhe pi bhave na tiṭṭheyya. Evaṃ tāva panujja-saddassa panudehī ti imasmiṃ atthavikappe sambandho, panuditvā ti etasmiṃ pana atthavikappe bhave na tiṭṭhe ti ayam eva sambandho. Etāni nandi-nivesana-viññāṇāni panuditvā duvidhe pi bhave na tiṭṭheyyā ti vuttaṃ hoti.

Etāni vinodetvā bhave atiṭṭhanto eso evaṃvihārī ti gāthā. Tattha idh’evā ti imasmiṃ yeva sāsane, imasmiṃ yeva vā attabhāve.

Sukittitaṃ Gotam’anūpadhīkan ti ettha anupadhikan ti nibbānaṃ. Taṃ sandhāya Bhagavantaṃ ālapanto āha “sukittitaṃ Gotam’anūpadhīkan” ti.

Na kevalaṃ dukkham eva pahāsi te cāpī ti gāthā. Tattha aṭṭhitan ti sakkaccaṃ, sadā vā. Taṃ taṃ namassāmī ti tasmā taṃ namassāmi. Sameccā ti upagantvā. Nāgā ti Bhagavantaṃ ālapanto āha.

Idāni taṃ Bhagavā “addhā hi Bhagavā pahāsi dukkhan” ti evaṃ tena brāhmaṇena vidito pi attānaṃ anupanetvā va pahīnadukkhena puggalena ovadanto “yaṃ brāhmaṇan” ti gātham āha.

Tass’attho yaṃ tvaṃ abhijānanto “ayaṃ bāhitapāpattā brāhmaṇo, vedehi gatattā vedagū, kiñcanābhāvena akiñcano, kāmesu ca bhavesu ca asattattā kāmabhave asatto” ti jaññā jāneyyāsi. Addhā hi so imaṃ oghaṃ atāri, tiṇṇo ca pāraṃ akhilo akaṅkho.

Kiñca bhiyyo vidvā ca yo ti gāthā. Tattha idhā ti imasmiṃ sāsane, attabhāve vā. Visajjā ti vossajjitvā. Sesaṃ sabbattha pākaṭam eva.

Evaṃ Bhagavā imam pi suttaṃ arahattanikūṭen’eva desesi. Desanāpariyosāne ca vuttasadiso eva dhammābhisamayo ahosī ti.
