Asubhânantaraṃ uddiṭṭhāsu pana dasasu anussatīsu, punappunaṃ uppajjanato sati yeva anussati, pavattitabbaṭṭhānamhi yeva vā pavattattā saddhāpabbajitassa kulaputtassa anurūpā satī ti pi anussati.
- Buddhaṃ ārabbha uppannā anussati Buddhânussati, Buddhaguṇârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.
- Dhammaṃ ārabbha uppannā anussati dhammânussati, svākkhātatâdi-dhammaguṇârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.
- Saṅghaṃ ārabbha uppannā anussati saṅghânussati, suppaṭipannatâdi-saṅghaguṇârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.
- Sīlaṃ ārabbha uppannā anussati sīlânussati, akhaṇḍatâdi-sīlaguṇârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.
- Cāgaṃ ārabbha uppannā anussati cāgânussati, muttacāgatâdi-cāgaguṇârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.
- Devatā ārabbha uppannā anussati devatânussati, devatā sakkhiṭṭhāne ṭhapetvā attano saddhâdi-guṇârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.
- Maraṇaṃ ārabbha uppannā anussati maraṇânussati, jīvitindriyupacchedârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.
- Kesâdi-bhedaṃ rūpakāyaṃ gatā, kāye vā gatā ti kāyagatā, kāyagatā ca sā sati cā ti kāyagatasatī ti vattabbe rassaṃ akatvā kāyagatāsatī ti vuttā, kesâdi-kāyakoṭṭhāsa-nimittârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.
- Ānāpāne ārabbha uppannā sati ānāpānassati, assāsa-passāsa-nimittârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.
- Upasamaṃ ārabbha uppannā anussati upasamânussati, sabbadukkhûpasamârammaṇāya satiyā etam adhivacanaṃ.

Iti imāsu dasasu anussatīsu Buddhânussatiṃ tāva bhāvetukāmena avecca-ppasāda-samannāgatena yoginā patirūpa-senāsane rahogatena paṭisallīnena
“Iti pi so Bhagavā arahaṃ sammāsambuddho vijjācaraṇasampanno sugato lokavidū anuttaro purisadammasārathi satthā devamanussānaṃ Buddho Bhagavā” ti (a. ni. 6.10)
evaṃ Buddhassa Bhagavato guṇā anussaritabbā.

Tatrâyaṃ anussaraṇanayo. “So Bhagavā iti pi arahaṃ, iti pi sammāsambuddho…pe… iti pi Bhagavā” ti anussarati, iminā ca iminā ca kāraṇenā ti vuttaṃ hoti.

Tattha ārakattā, arīnaṃ arānañ ca hatattā, paccayâdīnaṃ arahattā, pāpakaraṇe rahâbhāvā ti imehi tāva kāraṇehi so Bhagavā arahan ti anussarati.

Ārakā hi so sabbakilesehi suvidūravidūre ṭhito, maggena savāsanānaṃ kilesānaṃ viddhaṃsitattā ti ārakattā arahaṃ.
So tato ārakā nāma yassa yenâsamaṅgitā,
asamaṅgī ca dosehi Nātho tenârahaṃ mato ti.

Yasmā rāgâdi-saṅkhātā sabbe pi arayo hatā

Yañ c’etaṃ avijjā-bhava-taṇhā-maya-nābhi puññâdi-abhisaṅkhārâraṃ jarāmaraṇa-nemi āsavasamudayamayena akkhena vijjhitvā tibhava-rathe samāyojitaṃ anādikālappavattaṃ saṃsāra-cakkaṃ, tassânena Bodhimaṇḍe vīriya-pādehi sīla-pathaviyaṃ patiṭṭhāya saddhā-hatthena kammakkhayakaraṃ ñāṇa-pharasuṃ gahetvā sabbe arā hatā ti arānaṃ hatattā pi arahaṃ.

Atha vā saṃsāracakkan ti anamataggaṃ saṃsāravaṭṭaṃ vuccati, tassa ca avijjā nābhi mūlattā, jarāmaraṇaṃ nemi pariyosānattā, sesā dasa dhammā arā avijjāmūlakattā jarāmaraṇapariyantattā ca.

Tattha dukkhâdīsu aññāṇaṃ avijjā, kāmabhave ca avijjā kāmabhave saṅkhārānaṃ paccayo hoti. Rūpabhave avijjā rūpabhave saṅkhārānaṃ paccayo hoti. Arūpabhave avijjā arūpabhave saṅkhārānaṃ paccayo hoti.

Kāmabhave saṅkhārā kāmabhave paṭisandhiviññāṇassa paccayā honti. Esa nayo itaresu.

Kāmabhave paṭisandhiviññāṇaṃ kāmabhave nāmarūpassa paccayo hoti. Tathā rūpabhave. Arūpabhave nāmass’eva paccayo hoti.

Kāmabhave nāmarūpaṃ kāmabhave saḷāyatanassa paccayo hoti. Rūpabhave nāmarūpaṃ rūpabhave tiṇṇaṃ āyatanānaṃ paccayo hoti. Arūpabhave nāmaṃ arūpabhave ekassa āyatanassa paccayo hoti.

Kāmabhave saḷāyatanaṃ kāmabhave chabbidhassa phassassa paccayo hoti. Rūpabhave tīṇi āyatanāni rūpabhave tiṇṇaṃ phassānaṃ paccayā honti. Arūpabhave ekaṃ āyatanaṃ arūpabhave ekassa phassassa paccayo hoti.

Kāmabhave cha phassā kāmabhave channaṃ vedanānaṃ paccayā honti. Rūpabhave tayo phassā tatth’eva tissannaṃ. Arūpabhave eko tatth’eva ekissā vedanāya paccayo hoti.

Kāmabhave cha vedanā kāmabhave channaṃ taṇhākāyānaṃ paccayā honti. Rūpabhave tisso tatth’eva tiṇṇaṃ. Arūpabhave ekā vedanā arūpabhave ekassa taṇhākāyassa paccayo hoti. Tattha tattha sā sā taṇhā tassa tassa upādānassa, upādānâdayo bhavâdīnaṃ.

Kathaṃ? Idh’ekacco “kāme paribhuñjissāmī” ti kāmupādānapaccayā kāyena duccaritaṃ carati, vācāya duccaritaṃ carati, manasā duccaritaṃ carati, duccaritapāripūriyā apāye upapajjati. Tatth’assa upapattihetubhūtaṃ kammaṃ kammabhavo, kammanibbattā khandhā upapattibhavo, khandhānaṃ nibbatti jāti, paripāko jarā, bhedo maraṇaṃ.

Aparo “saggasampattiṃ anubhavissāmī” ti tath’eva sucaritaṃ carati, sucaritapāripūriyā sagge upapajjati. Tatth’assa upapattihetubhūtaṃ kammaṃ kammabhavo ti so eva nayo.

Aparo pana “Brahmalokasampattiṃ anubhavissāmī” ti kāmupādānapaccayā eva mettaṃ bhāveti, karuṇaṃ, muditaṃ, upekkhaṃ bhāveti, bhāvanāpāripūriyā Brahmaloke nibbattati. Tatth’assa nibbattihetubhūtaṃ kammaṃ kammabhavo ti so eva nayo.

Aparo “arūpabhave sampattiṃ anubhavissāmī” ti tath’eva ākāsānañcâyatanâdi-samāpattiyo bhāveti, bhāvanāpāripūriyā tattha tattha nibbattati. Tatth’assa nibbattihetubhūtaṃ kammaṃ kammabhavo, kammanibbattā khandhā upapattibhavo, khandhānaṃ nibbatti jāti, paripāko jarā, bhedo maraṇan ti. Esa nayo sesupādānamūlikāsu pi yojanāsu.

Evaṃ ayaṃ,
“Avijjā hetu, saṅkhārā hetusamuppannā, ubho p’ete hetusamuppannā ti paccayapariggahe paññā dhammaṭṭhitiñāṇaṃ. Atītam pi addhānaṃ anāgatam pi addhānaṃ avijjā hetu, saṅkhārā hetusamuppannā, ubho p’ete hetusamuppannā ti paccayapariggahe paññā dhammaṭṭhitiñāṇan” ti (paṭi. ma.)
eten’eva nayena sabbapadāni vitthāretabbāni.

Tattha avijjā-saṅkhārā eko saṅkhepo, viññāṇa-nāmarūpa-saḷāyatana-phassa-vedanā eko, taṇhupādāna-bhavā eko, jāti-jarāmaraṇaṃ eko.
Purimasaṅkhepo c’ettha atīto addhā, dve majjhimā paccuppanno, jāti-jarāmaraṇaṃ anāgato.
Avijjāsaṅkhāra-ggahaṇena c’ettha taṇhupādāna-bhavā gahitā va hontī ti ime pañca dhammā atīte kammavaṭṭaṃ, viññāṇâdayo pañca etarahi vipākavaṭṭaṃ, taṇhupādāna-bhava-ggahaṇena avijjā-saṅkhārā gahitā va hontī ti ime pañca dhammā etarahi kammavaṭṭaṃ, jāti-jarāmaraṇâpadesena viññāṇâdīnaṃ niddiṭṭhattā ime pañca dhammā āyatiṃ vipākavaṭṭaṃ. Te ākārato vīsatividhā honti.
Saṅkhāra-viññāṇānañ c’ettha antarā eko sandhi, vedanā-taṇhānam antarā eko, bhava-jātīnam antarā eko ti.

Iti Bhagavā etaṃ catusaṅkhepaṃ tiyaddhaṃ vīsatâkāraṃ tisandhiṃ paṭiccasamuppādaṃ sabbâkārato jānāti passati aññāti paṭivijjhati.
“Taṃ ñātaṭṭhena ñāṇaṃ, pajānanaṭṭhena paññā, tena vuccati paccayapariggahe paññā dhammaṭṭhitiñāṇan” ti. (paṭi. ma.)
Iminā dhammaṭṭhitiñāṇena Bhagavā te dhamme yathābhūtaṃ ñatvā tesu nibbindanto virajjanto vimuccanto vuttappakārassa imassa saṃsāracakkassa are hani vihani viddhaṃsesi. Evam pi arānaṃ hatattā arahaṃ.
Arā saṃsāracakkassa hatā ñāṇâsinā yato,
Lokanāthena ten’esa arahan ti pavuccati.

Aggadakkhiṇeyyattā ca cīvarâdi-paccaye arahati pūjāvisesañ ca. Ten’eva ca uppanne Tathāgate ye keci mahesakkhā devamanussā, na te aññattha pūjaṃ karonti. Tathā hi Brahmā Sahampati Sinerumattena ratanadāmena Tathāgataṃ pūjesi, yathābalañ ca aññe devā manussā ca Bimbisāra-Kosalarājâdayo, parinibbutam pi ca Bhagavantaṃ uddissa channavuti-koṭi-dhanaṃ vissajjetvā Asokamahārājā sakala-Jambudīpe caturāsīti vihārasahassāni patiṭṭhāpesi, ko pana vādo aññesaṃ pūjāvisesānan ti paccayâdīnaṃ arahattā pi arahaṃ.
Pūjāvisesaṃ saha paccayehi
yasmā ayaṃ arahati Lokanātho,
atthânurūpaṃ arahan ti loke
tasmā Jino arahati nāmam etaṃ.

Yathā ca loke ye keci paṇḍitamānino bālā asilokabhayena raho pāpaṃ karonti, evam esa na kadāci karotī ti pāpakaraṇe rahâbhāvato pi arahaṃ.
Yasmā natthi raho nāma pāpakammesu tādino,
rahâbhāvena ten’esa arahaṃ iti vissuto.

Evaṃ sabbathā pi,
Ārakattā hatattā ca kilesârīna so muni,
hatasaṃsāracakkâro paccayâdīna câraho,
na raho karoti pāpāni, arahaṃ tena vuccatī ti.

Sammā sāmañ ca sabbadhammānaṃ buddhattā pana sammāsambuddho. Tathā hi esa sabbadhamme sammā sāmañ ca buddho, abhiññeyye dhamme abhiññeyyato buddho, pariññeyye dhamme pariññeyyato, pahātabbe dhamme pahātabbato, sacchikātabbe dhamme sacchikātabbato, bhāvetabbe dhamme bhāvetabbato. Ten’eva c’āha:
“Abhiññeyyaṃ abhiññātaṃ, bhāvetabbañ ca bhāvitaṃ,
pahātabbaṃ pahīnaṃ me, tasmā Buddho’smi brāhmaṇā” ti. (ma. ni. 2.399; su. ni. 564)

Api ca cakkhuṃ dukkhasaccaṃ, tassa mūlakāraṇabhāvena samuṭṭhāpikā purimataṇhā samudayasaccaṃ, ubhinnaṃ appavatti nirodhasaccaṃ, nirodhapajānanā paṭipadā maggasaccan ti evaṃ ekekapaduddhārenâpi sabbadhamme sammā sāmañ ca buddho. Esa nayo sota-ghāna-jivhā-kāya-manesu.

- rūpâdīni cha āyatanāni,
- cakkhuviññāṇâdayo cha viññāṇakāyā,
- cakkhusamphassâdayo cha phassā,
- cakkhusamphassajâdayo cha vedanā,
- rūpasaññâdayo cha saññā,
- rūpasañcetanâdayo cha cetanā,
- rūpataṇhâdayo cha taṇhākāyā,
- rūpavitakkâdayo cha vitakkā,
- rūpavicārâdayo cha vicārā,
- rūpakkhandhâdayo pañcakkhandhā,
- dasa kasiṇāni,
- dasa anussatiyo,
- uddhumātakasaññâdivasena dasa saññā,
- kesâdayo dvattiṃsâkārā,
- dvādasâyatanāni,
- aṭṭhārasa dhātuyo,
- kāmabhavâdayo nava bhavā,
- paṭhamâdīni cattāri jhānāni,
- mettābhāvanâdayo catasso appamaññā,
- catasso arūpasamāpattiyo,
- paṭilomato jarāmaraṇâdīni,
- anulomato avijjâdīni paṭiccasamuppādaṅgāni ca
yojetabbāni.

Tatrâyaṃ ekapadayojanā: jarāmaraṇaṃ dukkhasaccaṃ, jāti samudayasaccaṃ, ubhinnam pi nissaraṇaṃ nirodhasaccaṃ, nirodhapajānanā paṭipadā maggasaccan ti. Evam ekekapaduddhārena sabbadhamme sammā sāmañ ca buddho anubuddho paṭibuddho. Tena vuttaṃ “Sammā sāmañ ca sabbadhammānaṃ buddhattā pana sammāsambuddho” ti.

Vijjāhi pana caraṇena ca sampannattā vijjācaraṇasampanno. Tattha vijjā ti tisso pi vijjā aṭṭha pi vijjā. Tisso vijjā Bhayabheravasutte vuttanayen’eva veditabbā, aṭṭha Ambaṭṭhasutte. Tatra hi vipassanāñāṇena manomayiddhiyā ca saha cha abhiññā pariggahetvā aṭṭha vijjā vuttā.

Caraṇan ti sīlasaṃvaro, indriyesu guttadvāratā, bhojane mattaññutā, jāgariyânuyogo, satta saddhammā1, cattāri rūpāvacara-jjhānānī ti ime pannarasa dhammā veditabbā. Ime yeva hi pannarasa dhammā, yasmā etehi carati ariyasāvako gacchati amataṃ disaṃ, tasmā caraṇan ti vuttā. Yath’āha:
“Idha, Mahānāma, ariyasāvako sīlavā hotī” ti (ma. ni. 2.24)
sabbaṃ Majjhimapaṇṇāsake vuttanayen’eva veditabbaṃ. Bhagavā imāhi vijjāhi iminā ca caraṇena samannāgato. tena vuccati vijjācaraṇasampanno ti.

Tattha vijjāsampadā Bhagavato sabbaññutaṃ pūretvā ṭhitā, caraṇasampadā mahākāruṇikataṃ. So sabbaññutāya sabbasattānaṃ atthânatthaṃ ñatvā mahākāruṇikatāya anatthaṃ parivajjetvā atthe niyojeti. Yathā taṃ vijjācaraṇasampanno, ten’assa sāvakā suppaṭipannā honti, no duppaṭipannā, vijjācaraṇavipannānaṃ sāvakā attantapâdayo viya.

Sobhanagamanattā, sundaraṃ ṭhānaṃ gatattā, sammā gatattā, sammā ca gadattā sugato. Gamanam pi hi gatan ti vuccati, tañ ca Bhagavato sobhanaṃ parisuddham anavajjaṃ. Kiṃ pana tan ti? Ariyamaggo. Tena h’esa gamanena khemaṃ disaṃ asajjamāno gato ti sobhanagamanattā sugato. Sundarañ c’esa ṭhānaṃ gato amataṃ nibbānan ti sundaraṃ ṭhānaṃ gatattā pi sugato.

Sammā ca gato tena tena maggena pahīne kilese puna apaccāgacchanto. Vuttañ h’etaṃ:
“Sotāpattimaggena ye kilesā pahīnā, te kilese na pun’eti na pacceti na paccāgacchatī ti sugato…pe… Arahattamaggena ye kilesā pahīnā, te kilese na pun’eti na pacceti na paccāgacchatī ti sugato” ti.
Sammā vā gato Dīpaṅkarapādamūlato pabhuti yāva Bodhimaṇḍā tāva samatiṃsa-pāramī-pūrikāya sammāpaṭipattiyā sabbalokassa hitasukham eva karonto, sassataṃ ucchedaṃ kāmasukhaṃ attakilamathan ti ime ca ante anupagacchanto gato ti sammā gatattā pi sugato.

Sammā c’esa gadati yuttaṭṭhāne yuttam eva vācaṃ bhāsatī ti sammā gadattā pi sugato. Tatr’idaṃ sādhakasuttaṃ:
“Yaṃ Tathāgato vācaṃ jānāti abhūtaṃ atacchaṃ anatthasañhitaṃ, sā ca paresaṃ appiyā amanāpā, na taṃ Tathāgato vācaṃ bhāsati.
Yam pi Tathāgato vācaṃ jānāti bhūtaṃ tacchaṃ anatthasañhitaṃ, sā ca paresaṃ appiyā amanāpā, tam pi Tathāgato vācaṃ na bhāsati.
Yañ ca kho Tathāgato vācaṃ jānāti bhūtaṃ tacchaṃ atthasañhitaṃ, sā ca paresaṃ appiyā amanāpā, tatra kālaññū Tathāgato hoti tassā vācāya veyyākaraṇāya.
Yaṃ Tathāgato vācaṃ jānāti abhūtaṃ atacchaṃ anatthasañhitaṃ, sā ca paresaṃ piyā manāpā, na taṃ Tathāgato vācaṃ bhāsati.
Yam pi Tathāgato vācaṃ jānāti bhūtaṃ tacchaṃ anatthasañhitaṃ, sā ca paresaṃ piyā manāpā, tam pi Tathāgato vācaṃ na bhāsati.
Yañ ca kho Tathāgato vācaṃ jānāti bhūtaṃ tacchaṃ atthasañhitaṃ, sā ca paresaṃ piyā manāpā, tatra kālaññū Tathāgato hoti tassā vācāya veyyākaraṇāyā” ti. (ma. ni. 2.86)
Evaṃ sammā gadattā pi sugato ti veditabbo.

Sabbathā pi viditalokattā pana lokavidū. So hi Bhagavā sabhāvato samudayato nirodhato nirodhûpāyato ti sabbathā lokaṃ avedi aññāsi paṭivijjhi. Yath’āha:
“Yattha kho, āvuso, na jāyati na jīyati na mīyati na cavati na upapajjati, nâhaṃ taṃ gamanena lokassa antaṃ ñāteyyaṃ daṭṭheyyaṃ patteyyan ti vadāmi. Na câhaṃ, āvuso, apatvā va lokassa antaṃ dukkhassa antakiriyaṃ vadāmi. Api câhaṃ, āvuso, imasmiñ ñeva byāmamatte kaḷevare sasaññimhi samanake lokañ ca paññapemi, lokasamudayañ ca lokanirodhañ ca lokanirodhagāminiñ ca paṭipadaṃ.
Gamanena na pattabbo lokass’anto kudācanaṃ,
na ca apatvā lokantaṃ dukkhā atthi pamocanaṃ.
Tasmā have lokavidū sumedho
lokantagū vūsitabrahmacariyo,
lokassa antaṃ samitāvi ñatvā
nâsīsati lokam imaṃ parañ cā” ti. (saṃ. ni. 1.107; a. ni. 4.45)

Api ca tayo lokā: saṅkhāraloko sattaloko okāsaloko ti. Tattha,
“Eko loko, sabbe sattā āhāraṭṭhitikā” ti (paṭi. ma. 1.112)
āgataṭṭhāne saṅkhāraloko veditabbo.
“Sassato loko ti vā asassato loko ti vā” ti (dī. ni. 1.421)
āgataṭṭhāne sattaloko.
“Yāvatā candimasūriyā pariharanti disā bhanti virocamānā,
tāva sahassadhā loko ettha te vattatī vaso” ti (ma. ni. 1.503)
āgataṭṭhāne okāsaloko. Tam pi Bhagavā sabbathā avedi.

Tathā hi’ssa,
“Eko loko, sabbe sattā āhāraṭṭhitikā. Dve lokā, nāmañ ca rūpañ ca. Tayo lokā, tisso vedanā. Cattāro lokā, cattāro āhārā. Pañca lokā, pañcupādānakkhandhā. Cha lokā, cha ajjhattikāni āyatanāni. Satta lokā, satta viññāṇaṭṭhitiyo2. Aṭṭha lokā, aṭṭha lokadhammā3. Nava lokā, nava sattâvāsā4. Dasa lokā, das’āyatanāni5. Dvādasa lokā, dvādas’āyatanāni. Aṭṭhārasa lokā, aṭṭhārasa dhātuyo” ti (paṭi. ma. 1.112)
ayaṃ saṅkhāraloko pi sabbathā vidito.

Yasmā pan’esa sabbesam pi sattānaṃ āsayaṃ jānāti, anusayaṃ jānāti, caritaṃ jānāti, adhimuttiṃ jānāti, apparajakkhe mahārajakkhe, tikkhindriye mudindriye, svākāre dvākāre, suviññāpaye duviññāpaye, bhabbe abhabbe satte jānāti, tasmā’ssa sattaloko pi sabbathā vidito.

Yathā ca sattaloko, evaṃ okāsaloko pi. Tathā h’esa — Ekaṃ cakkavāḷaṃ āyāmato ca vitthārato ca yojanānaṃ dvādasa satasahassāni catutiṃsa satāni ca paññāsañ ca yojanāni, parikkhepato pana,
Sabbaṃ satasahassāni chattiṃsa parimaṇḍalaṃ,
dasa c’eva sahassāni aḍḍhuḍḍhāni satāni ca.

Duve satasahassāni cattāri nahutāni ca,
ettakaṃ bahalattena saṅkhātā’yaṃ vasundharā.
Tassā yeva sandhārakaṃ
Cattāri satasahassāni aṭṭh’eva nahutāni ca,
ettakaṃ bahalattena jalaṃ vāte patiṭṭhitaṃ.
Tassâpi sandhārako
Nava satasahassāni māluto nabham uggato
saṭṭhiñ c’eva sahassāni, esā lokassa saṇṭhiti.

Evaṃ saṇṭhite c’ettha yojanānaṃ
Caturāsīti sahassāni ajjhogāḷho mahaṇṇave,
accuggato tāvad eva Sineru pabbatuttamo.
Tato upaḍḍhupaḍḍhena pamāṇena yathākkamaṃ
ajjhogāḷhuggatā dibbā nānāratanacittitā,
Yugandharo Īsadharo Karavīko Sudassano,
Nemindharo Vinatako Assakaṇṇo giri brahā,
Ete satta mahāselā Sinerussa samantato,
Mahārājānam āvāsā deva-yakkha-nisevitā.

Yañ c’etaṃ jambuyā pamāṇaṃ, etad eva Asurānaṃ citra-pāṭaliyā, Garuḷānaṃ simbalirukkhassa, Aparagoyāne kadambassa, Uttarakurūsu kapparukkhassa, Pubbavidehe sirīsassa, Tāvatiṃsesu pāricchattakassā ti. Ten’āhu porāṇā:
“Pāṭalī, simbalī, jambū, devānaṃ pāricchattako,
kadambo, kapparukkho ca sirīsena bhavati sattaman” ti.
“Dve-asīti sahassāni ajjhogāḷho mahaṇṇave,
accuggato tāvad eva cakkavāḷa-siluccayo,
parikkhipitvā taṃ sabbaṃ lokadhātum ayaṃ ṭhito” ti.

Tattha candamaṇḍalaṃ ekūnapaññāsa-yojanaṃ, sūriyamaṇḍalaṃ paññāsa-yojanaṃ. Tāvatiṃsabhavanaṃ dasasahassa-yojanaṃ, tathā Asurabhavanaṃ, Avīci mahānirayo, Jambudīpo ca. Aparagoyānaṃ sattasahassa-yojanaṃ, tathā Pubbavidehaṃ. Uttarakuru aṭṭhasahassa-yojanaṃ. “Ahaṃ kho, Kesi, purisadamme saṇhena pi vinemi, pharusena pi vinemi, saṇhapharusena pi vinemī” ti (a. ni. 4.11)
idañ c’ettha suttaṃ vitthāretabbaṃ.

Api ca Bhagavā visuddhasīlâdīnaṃ paṭhamajjhānâdīni sotāpannâdīnañ ca uttarimaggapaṭipadaṃ ācikkhanto dante pi dameti yeva.
Atha vā anuttaro purisadammasārathī ti ekam ev’idaṃ atthapadaṃ. Bhagavā hi tathā purisadamme sāreti, yathā ekapallaṅken’eva nisinnā aṭṭha disā asajjamānā dhāvanti, tasmā anuttaro purisadammasārathī ti vuccati.

Devamanussānan ti devānañ ca manussānañ ca. Ukkaṭṭha-paricchedavasena, bhabbapuggala-paricchedavasena c’etaṃ vuttaṃ. Bhagavā pana tiracchānagatānam pi anusāsani-ppadānena satthā yeva. Te pi hi Bhagavato dhammassavanena upanissaya-sampattiṃ patvā, tāya eva upanissaya-sampattiyā dutiye vā tatiye vā attabhāve maggaphalabhāgino honti.

Maṇḍūkadevaputtâdayo c’ettha nidassanaṃ. Bhagavati kira Gaggarāya pokkharaṇiyā tīre Campā-nagara-vāsīnaṃ dhammaṃ desiyamāne, eko maṇḍūko Bhagavato sare nimittaṃ aggahesi. Taṃ eko vacchapālako daṇḍaṃ olubbha tiṭṭhanto sīse sannirumbhitvā7 aṭṭhāsi. So tāvad eva kālaṅkatvā Tāvatiṃsabhavane dvādasayojanike kanakavimāne nibbatti, suttappabuddho viya ca tattha accharā-saṅgha-parivutaṃ attānaṃ disvā “are aham pi nāma idha nibbatto, kiṃ nu kho kammam akāsin” ti āvajjento, na aññaṃ kiñci addasa, aññatra Bhagavato sare nimittaggāhā. So tāvad eva saha vimānena āgantvā Bhagavato pāde sirasā8 vandi. Bhagavā jānanto va pucchi:
“Ko me vandati pādāni, iddhiyā yasasā jalaṃ
abhikkantena vaṇṇena sabbā obhāsayaṃ disā” ti?
“Maṇḍūko’haṃ pure āsiṃ udake vārigocaro,
tava dhammaṃ suṇantassa avadhi vacchapālako” ti.
Bhagavā tassa dhammaṃ desesi. Caturâsītiyā pāṇasahassānaṃ dhammâbhisamayo ahosi, devaputto pi sotāpattiphale patiṭṭhāya sitaṃ katvā pakkamī ti.

Bhāgyavatāya c’assa satapuñña-lakkhaṇa-dharassa rūpakāya-sampatti dīpitā hoti, bhaggadosatāya dhammakāya-sampatti, tathā lokiya-sarikkhakānaṃ bahumatabhāvo, gahaṭṭha-pabbajitehi abhigamanīyatā, abhigatānañ ca nesaṃ kāya-citta-dukkhâpanayane paṭibalabhāvo, āmisadāna-dhammadānehi upakāritā, lokiya-lokuttara-sukhehi ca saṃyojana-samatthatā dīpitā hoti.

Yasmā ca loke issariya-dhamma-yasa-siri-kāma-payattesu chasu dhammesu bhagasaddo pavattati, — paramañ c’assa sakacitte issariyaṃ, aṇimā-laṅghimâdikaṃ vā lokiyasammataṃ sabbâkāra-paripūraṃ atthi, tathā lokuttaro dhammo, lokattaya-byāpako yathābhucca-guṇâdhigato ativiya parisuddho yaso, rūpakāyadassana-byāvaṭajana-nayana-ppasāda-janana-samatthā sabbâkāra-paripūrā sabbaṅgapaccaṅga-sirī, yaṃ yaṃ etena icchitaṃ patthitaṃ attahitaṃ parahitaṃ vā tassa tassa tath’eva abhinipphannattā icchitattha-nibbatti-saññito13 kāmo, sabbalokagarubhāva-ppatti-hetu-bhūto sammāvāyāma-saṅkhāto payatto ca atthi, — tasmā imehi bhagehi yuttattā pi, bhagā assa santī ti iminā atthena Bhagavā ti vuccati.

Sakalo pi sāsanadhammo attano atthabhūtena sīlena ādikalyāṇo, samatha-vipassanā-magga-phalehi majjhekalyāṇo, nibbānena pariyosānakalyāṇo. Sīla-samādhīhi vā ādikalyāṇo, vipassanā-maggehi majjhekalyāṇo, phala-nibbānehi pariyosānakalyāṇo. Yaṃ pan’esa Bhagavā dhammaṃ desento sāsana-brahmacariyaṃ magga-brahmacariyañ ca pakāseti nānānayehi dīpeti, taṃ yathânurūpaṃ atthasampattiyā sâtthaṃ, byañjanasampattiyā sabyañjanaṃ. Saṅkāsana-pakāsana-vivaraṇa-vibhajana-uttānīkaraṇa-paññatti-atthapadasamāyogato sâtthaṃ, akkhara-pada-byañjanâkāra-nirutti-niddesa-sampattiyā sabyañjanaṃ. Atthagambhīratā-paṭivedhagambhīratāhi sâtthaṃ, dhammagambhīratā-desanāgambhīratāhi sabyañjanaṃ. Attha-paṭibhāna-paṭisambhidā-visayato sâtthaṃ, dhamma-nirutti-paṭisambhidā-visayato sabyañjanaṃ. Paṇḍita-vedanīyato parikkhakajana-ppasādakan ti sâtthaṃ, saddheyyato lokiyajana-ppasādakan ti sabyañjanaṃ. Gambhīrâdhippāyato sâtthaṃ, uttānapadato sabyañjanaṃ.
Upanetabbassa abhāvato sakala-paripuṇṇa-bhāvena kevalaparipuṇṇaṃ, apanetabbassa abhāvato niddosa-bhāvena parisuddhaṃ.
Api ca paṭipattiyā adhigamabyattito sâtthaṃ, pariyattiyā āgamabyattito sabyañjanaṃ, sīlâdi-pañcadhammakkhandha-yuttato kevalaparipuṇṇaṃ, nirupakkilesato nittaraṇatthāya pavattito lokâmisa-nirapekkhato ca parisuddhan ti evaṃ sâttha-sabyañjana-kevalaparipuṇṇa-parisuddha-brahmacariya-ppakāsanato14 svākkhāto.

Atthavipallāsâbhāvato vā suṭṭhu akkhāto ti svākkhāto. Yathā hi aññatitthiyānaṃ dhammassa attho vipallāsam āpajjati, antarāyikā ti vuttadhammānaṃ antarāyikattâbhāvato, niyyānikā ti 15 vuttadhammānaṃ niyyānikattâbhāvato, tena te durakkhātadhammā yeva honti, na tathā Bhagavato dhammassa attho vipallāsam āpajjati “ime dhammā antarāyikā, ime dhammā niyyānikā” ti evaṃ vuttadhammānaṃ tathābhāvânatikkamanato ti. Evaṃ tāva pariyattidhammo svākkhāto.

Lokuttaradhammo pana nibbānânurūpāya paṭipattiyā, paṭipadânurūpassa ca nibbānassa akkhātattā svākkhāto. Yath’āha:
“Supaññattā kho pana tena Bhagavatā sāvakānaṃ nibbānagāminī paṭipadā, saṃsandati nibbānañ ca paṭipadā ca. Seyyathā pi nāma Gaṅgodakaṃ Yamunodakena saṃsandati sameti, evam eva supaññattā 16 tena Bhagavatā sāvakānaṃ nibbānagāminī paṭipadā, saṃsandati nibbānañ ca paṭipadā cā” ti. (dī. ni. 2.296)

Ariyamaggo c’ettha antadvayaṃ anupagamma majjhimā-paṭipadābhūto va “majjhimā paṭipadā” ti akkhātattā svākkhāto. Tass’evaṃ vigata-malamaccheratâdi-guṇavasena attano cāgaṃ anussarato,
“N’eva tasmiṃ samaye rāgapariyuṭṭhitaṃ cittaṃ hoti, na dosa…pe… na mohapariyuṭṭhitaṃ cittaṃ hoti, ujugatam ev’assa tasmiṃ samaye cittaṃ hoti cāgaṃ ārabbhā” ti (a. ni. 5.10)
purimanayen’eva vikkhambhita-nīvaraṇassa ekakkhaṇe jhānaṅgāni uppajjanti. Cāgaguṇānaṃ pana gambhīratāya nānappakāra-cāgaguṇânussaraṇâdhimuttatāya vā appanaṃ appatvā upacārappattam eva jhānaṃ hoti. Tad etaṃ cāgaguṇânussaraṇavasena uppannattā cāgânussat’icc eva saṅkhaṃ gacchati.
