Paṭhamamaggañāṇakathā

Ito paraṃ gotrabhuñāṇaṃ hoti. Taṃ maggassa āvajjana-ṭṭhāniyattā n’eva paṭipadā-ñāṇadassana-visuddhiṃ na ñāṇadassana-visuddhiṃ bhajati, antarā abbohārikam eva hoti, vipassanāsote patitattā pana vipassanā ti saṅkhaṃ gacchati.

Sotāpattimaggo sakadāgāmimaggo anāgāmimaggo arahattamaggo ti imesu pana catūsu maggesu ñāṇaṃ ñāṇadassanavisuddhi nāma.

Tattha paṭhamamaggañāṇaṃ tāva sampādetukāmena aññaṃ kiñci kātabbaṃ nāma natthi. Yañ hi anena kātabbaṃ siyā, taṃ anulomâvasānaṃ vipassanaṃ uppādentena katam eva.

Evaṃ uppanna-anulomañāṇassa pan’assa tehi tīhipi anulomañāṇehi attano balânurūpena thūla-thūle sacca-paṭicchādake tamamhi antaradhāpite, sabba-saṅkhāragatesu cittaṃ na pakkhandati na santiṭṭhati nâdhimuccati na sajjati na laggati na bajjhati, padumapalāsato udakaṃ viya patilīyati patikuṭati pativattati, sabbaṃ nimittârammaṇam pi sabbaṃ pavattârammaṇam pi palibodhato upaṭṭhāti.

Ath’assa sabbasmiṃ nimitta-pavattârammaṇe palibodhato upaṭṭhite anulomañāṇassa āsevanante animittaṃ appavattaṃ visaṅkhāraṃ nirodhaṃ nibbānaṃ ārammaṇaṃ kurumānaṃ, puthujjana-gottaṃ puthujjana-saṅkhaṃ puthujjana-bhūmiṃ atikkamamānaṃ, ariya-gottaṃ ariya-saṅkhaṃ ariya-bhūmiṃ okkamamānaṃ nibbānârammaṇe paṭhamâvaṭṭana-paṭhamâbhoga-paṭhamasamannāhāra-bhūtaṃ maggassa anantara-samanantarâsevana-upanissaya-natthi-vigatavasena chahi ākārehi paccayabhāvaṃ sādhayamānaṃ sikhāppattaṃ vipassanāya muddhabhūtaṃ apunar-āvaṭṭakaṃ uppajjati gotrabhuñāṇaṃ. Yaṃ sandhāya vuttaṃ:

“Kathaṃ bahiddhā vuṭṭhāna-vivaṭṭane paññā gotrabhuñāṇaṃ? Uppādaṃ abhibhuyyatī ti gotrabhu, pavattaṃ…pe… upāyāsaṃ abhibhuyyatī ti gotrabhu… bahiddhā saṅkhāra-nimittaṃ abhibhuyyatī ti gotrabhu.

Anuppādaṃ pakkhandatī ti gotrabhu, appavattaṃ…pe… anupāyāsaṃ nirodhaṃ nibbānaṃ pakkhandatī ti gotrabhu. Uppādaṃ abhibhuyyitvā anuppādaṃ pakkhandatī ti gotrabhū” ti (paṭi. ma. 1.59)

Tatrâyaṃ ekâvajjanena ekavīthiyaṃ pavattamānānam pi anuloma-gotrabhūnaṃ nānârammaṇe pavattanâkāra-dīpikā upamā. Yathā hi mahāmātikaṃ laṅghitvā paratīre patiṭṭhātukāmo puriso vegena dhāvitvā mātikāya orimatīre rukkhasākhāya bandhitvā olambitaṃ rajjuṃ vā yaṭṭhiṃ vā gahetvā ullaṅghitvā paratīra-ninna-poṇa-pabbhāra-kāyo hutvā paratīrassa uparibhāgaṃ patto taṃ muñcitvā vedhamāno paratīre patitvā saṇikaṃ patiṭṭhāti.

Evam evâyaṃ yogâvacaro pi bhava-yoni-gati-ṭṭhiti-nivāsānaṃ paratīra-bhūte nibbāne patiṭṭhātukāmo udayabbayânupassanâdinā vegena dhāvitvā attabhāva-rukkhasākhāya bandhitvā olambitaṃ rūpa-rajjuṃ vā vedanâdīsu aññatara-daṇḍaṃ vā aniccan ti vā dukkhan ti vā anattā ti vāti anulomâvajjanena gahetvā taṃ amuñcamāno va paṭhamena anuloma-cittena ullaṅghitvā, dutiyena paratīra-ninna-poṇa-pabbhāra-kāyo viya nibbāna-ninna-poṇa-pabbhāra-mānaso hutvā, tatiyena paratīrassa uparibhāgaṃ patto viya idāni pattabbassa nibbānassa āsanno hutvā tassa cittassa nirodhena taṃ saṅkhārârammaṇaṃ muñcitvā gotrabhu-cittena visaṅkhāre paratīra-bhūte nibbāne patati. Ekârammaṇe pana aladdhâsevanatāya vedhamāno so puriso viya na tāva suppatiṭṭhito hoti, tato maggañāṇena patiṭṭhātī ti.

Tattha anulomaṃ sacca-paṭicchādakaṃ kilesa-tamaṃ vinodetuṃ sakkoti, na nibbānam ārammaṇaṃ kātuṃ, gotrabhu nibbānam eva ārammaṇaṃ kātuṃ sakkoti, na sacca-paṭicchādakaṃ tamaṃ vinodetuṃ.

Tatrâyaṃ upamā. Eko kira cakkhumā puriso “nakkhattayogaṃ jānissāmī” ti rattibhāge nikkhamitvā candaṃ passituṃ uddhaṃ ullokesi, tassa valāhakehi paṭicchannattā cando na paññāyittha. Ath’eko vāto uṭṭhahitvā thūla-thūle valāhake viddhaṃseti, aparo majjhime, aparo sukhume ti1, tato so puriso vigata-valāhake nabhe candaṃ disvā nakkhattayogaṃ aññāsi.

Tattha tayo valāhakā viya sacca-paṭicchādaka-thūla-majjhima-sukhumaṃ kilesandhakāraṃ, tayo vātā viya tīṇi anuloma-cittāni, cakkhumā puriso viya gotrabhuñāṇaṃ, cando viya nibbānaṃ, ekekassa vātassa yathākkamena valāhaka-viddhaṃsanaṃ viya ekekassa anuloma-cittassa sacca-paṭicchādaka-tama-vinodanaṃ, vigata-valāhake nabhe tassa purisassa visuddha-canda-dassanaṃ viya vigate sacca-paṭicchādake tame gotrabhuñāṇassa visuddha-nibbāna-dassanaṃ.

Yath’eva hi tayo vātā canda-paṭicchādake valāhake yeva viddhaṃsetuṃ sakkonti, na candaṃ daṭṭhuṃ, evaṃ anulomāni sacca-paṭicchādakaṃ tamañ ñeva vinodetuṃ sakkonti, na nibbānaṃ daṭṭhuṃ. Yathā so puriso candam eva daṭṭhuṃ sakkoti, na valāhake viddhaṃsetuṃ, evaṃ gotrabhuñāṇaṃ nibbānam eva daṭṭhuṃ sakkoti, na kilesa-tamaṃ vinodetuṃ. Ten’eva c’etaṃ maggassa āvajjanan ti vuccati.

Tañ hi anāvajjanam pi samānaṃ āvajjanaṭṭhāne ṭhatvā “evaṃ nibbattāhī” ti maggassa saññaṃ datvā viya nirujjhati. Maggo pi tena dinna-saññaṃ amuñcitvā va avīci-santati-vasena taṃ ñāṇaṃ anuppabandhamāno2 anibbiddha-pubbaṃ apadālita-pubbaṃ lobhakkhandhaṃ dosakkhandhaṃ mohakkhandhaṃ nibbijjhamāno va padālayamāno va nibbattati.

Tatrâyaṃ upamā. Eko kira issāso aṭṭha-usabhamatte padese phalakasataṃ ṭhapāpetvā vatthena mukhaṃ veṭhetvā saraṃ sannahitvā cakkayante aṭṭhāsi. Añño puriso cakkayantaṃ āvijjhitvā, yadā issāsassa phalakaṃ abhimukhaṃ hoti, tadā tattha daṇḍakena saññaṃ deti. Issāso daṇḍaka-saññaṃ amuñcitvā va saraṃ khipitvā phalakasataṃ nibbijjhati.

Tattha daṇḍaka-saññaṃ viya gotrabhuñāṇaṃ, issāso viya maggañāṇaṃ, issāsassa daṇḍaka-saññaṃ amuñcitvā va phalakasata-nibbijjhanaṃ viya maggañāṇassa gotrabhuñāṇena dinna-saññaṃ amuñcitvā va nibbānaṃ ārammaṇaṃ katvā anibbiddha-pubbānaṃ apadālita-pubbānaṃ lobha-dosa-moha-kkhandhānaṃ nibbijjhana-padālanaṃ.

Na kevalañ c’esa maggo lobhakkhandhâdīnaṃ nibbijjhanam eva karoti, api ca kho anamatagga-saṃsāravaṭṭa-dukkhasamuddaṃ soseti, sabba-apāya-dvārāni pidahati, sattannaṃ ariya-dhanānaṃ sammukhībhāvaṃ karoti, aṭṭhaṅgikaṃ micchāmaggaṃ pajahati, sabba-vera-bhayāni vūpasameti, Sammāsambuddhassa orasa-putta-bhāvaṃ upaneti, aññesañ ca anekasatānaṃ ānisaṃsānaṃ paṭilābhāya saṃvattatī ti. Evaṃ anekânisaṃsa-dāyakena sotāpattimaggena sampayuttaṃ ñāṇaṃ sotāpattimagge ñāṇan ti.

Imassa pana ñāṇassa anantaraṃ tass’eva vipāka3-bhūtāni dve tīṇi vā phalacittāni uppajjanti. Anantara-vipākattā yeva hi lokuttara-kusalānaṃ

“Samādhim ānantarikañ ñam āhū” ti (su. ni. 228)

“Dandhaṃ ānantarikaṃ pāpuṇāti āsavānaṃ khayāyā” ti (a. ni. 4.162)

Keci pana “ekaṃ dve tīṇi cattāri vā phalacittānī” ti vadanti, taṃ na gahetabbaṃ. Anulomassa hi āsevanante gotrabhuñāṇaṃ uppajjati, tasmā sabbantimena paricchedena dvīhi anuloma-cittehi bhavitabbaṃ, — na hi ekaṃ āsevana-paccayaṃ labhati. Satta-citta-paramā ca ekâvajjanavīthi4, tasmā yassa dve anulomāni, tassa tatiyaṃ gotrabhu catutthaṃ maggacittaṃ tīṇi phalacittāni honti, yassa tīṇi anulomāni, tassa catutthaṃ gotrabhu pañcamaṃ maggacittaṃ dve phalacittāni honti. Tena vuttaṃ “dve tīṇi vā phalacittāni uppajjantī” ti.

Keci pana “yassa cattāri anulomāni, tassa pañcamaṃ gotrabhu chaṭṭhaṃ maggacittaṃ ekaṃ phalacittan” ti vadanti, taṃ pana yasmā catutthaṃ pañcamaṃ vā appeti, na tato paraṃ, āsanna-bhavaṅgattā ti (cf. IV.76-77) paṭikkhittaṃ, tasmā na sārato paccetabbaṃ.

Ettāvatā ca pan’esa sotāpanno nāma dutiyo ariyapuggalo hoti, bhusaṃ pamatto pi hutvā sattakkhattuṃ devesu ca manussesu ca sandhāvitvā saṃsaritvā dukkhass’antassa karaṇa-samattho hoti.

Phala-pariyosāne pan’assa cittaṃ bhavaṅgaṃ otarati. Tato bhavaṅgaṃ upacchinditvā magga-paccavekkhaṇatthāya uppajjati manodvārâvajjanaṃ, tasmiṃ niruddhe paṭipāṭiyā satta magga-paccavekkhaṇa-javanānī ti. Puna bhavaṅgaṃ otaritvā ten’eva nayena phalâdīnaṃ paccavekkhaṇatthāya āvajjanâdīni uppajjanti, yesaṃ uppattiyā esa maggaṃ paccavekkhati, phalaṃ paccavekkhati, pahīna-kilese paccavekkhati, avasiṭṭha-kilese paccavekkhati, nibbānaṃ paccavekkhati.

So hi “iminā vatâhaṃ maggena āgato” ti maggaṃ paccavekkhati, tato “ayaṃ me ānisaṃso laddho” ti phalaṃ paccavekkhati, tato “ime nāma me kilesā pahīnā” ti pahīna-kilese paccavekkhati, tato “ime nāma me kilesā avasiṭṭhā” ti upari-maggattaya-vajjhe kilese paccavekkhati, avasāne ca “ayaṃ me dhammo ārammaṇato paṭividdho” ti amataṃ nibbānaṃ paccavekkhati. Iti sotāpannassa ariyasāvakassa pañca paccavekkhaṇāni honti.

Yathā ca sotāpannassa, evaṃ sakadāgāmi-anāgāmīnam pi. Arahato pana avasiṭṭha-kilesa-paccavekkhaṇaṃ nāma natthī ti. Evaṃ sabbāni pi ekūnavīsati paccavekkhaṇāni nāma. Ukkaṭṭha-paricchedo yeva c’eso. Pahīnâvasiṭṭha-kilesa-paccavekkhaṇañ hi sekkhānam pi hoti vā na vā. Tassa hi paccavekkhaṇassa abhāven’eva Mahānāmo Bhagavantaṃ pucchi:

“Ko su nāma me dhammo ajjhattaṃ appahīno, yena me ekadā lobhadhammā pi cittaṃ pariyādāya tiṭṭhantī” ti (ma. ni. 1.175)

sabbaṃ vitthārato veditabbaṃ.

Evaṃ paccavekkhitvā pana so sotāpanno ariyasāvako tasmiñ ñeva vā āsane nisinno, aparena vā samayena kāmarāga-byāpādānaṃ tanubhāvāya dutiyāya bhūmiyā pattiyā yogaṃ karoti. So indriya-bala-bojjhaṅgāni samodhānetvā, tad eva rūpa-vedanā-saññā-saṅkhāra-viññāṇa-bhedaṃ saṅkhāragataṃ “aniccaṃ dukkham anattā” ti ñāṇena parimaddati, parivatteti, vipassanā-vīthiṃ ogāhati.

Tass’evaṃ paṭipannassa vuttanayen’eva saṅkhārupekkhâvasāne ekâvajjanena anuloma-gotrabhu-ñāṇesu uppannesu gotrabhu-anantaraṃ sakadāgāmimaggo uppajjati, tena sampayuttaṃ ñāṇaṃ sakadāgāmimagge ñāṇan ti.

Evaṃ paccavekkhitvā ca so anāgāmī ariyasāvako tasmiñ ñeva vā āsane nisinno, aparena vā samayena rūpârūparāga-māna-uddhacca-avijjānaṃ anavasesa-ppahānāya catutthāya bhūmiyā pattiyā yogaṃ karoti. So indriya-bala-bojjhaṅgāni samodhānetvā, tad eva saṅkhāragataṃ “aniccaṃ dukkham anattā” ti ñāṇena parimaddati, parivatteti, vipassanā-vīthiṃ ogāhati.

Tass’evaṃ paṭipannassa vuttanayen’eva saṅkhārupekkhâvasāne ekâvajjanena anuloma-gotrabhu-ñāṇesu uppannesu gotrabhu-anantaraṃ arahattamaggo uppajjati, tena sampayuttaṃ ñāṇaṃ arahattamagge ñāṇan ti.

Imassa pi ñāṇassa anantaraṃ vuttanayen’eva phalacittāni veditabbāni. Ettāvatā c’esa arahā nāma aṭṭhamo ariyapuggalo hoti mahākhīṇāsavo antimadeha-dhārī ohitabhāro anuppatta-sadattho parikkhīṇa-bhavasaṃyojano sammādaññā-vimutto sadevakassa lokassa agga-dakkhiṇeyyo ti.

Iti yaṃ taṃ vuttaṃ

“Sotāpattimaggo sakadāgāmimaggo anāgāmimaggo arahattamaggo ti imesu pana catūsu maggesu ñāṇaṃ ñāṇadassanavisuddhi nāmā” ti (XXII.2)

taṃ imāni iminā anukkamena pattabbāni cattāri ñāṇāni sandhāya vuttaṃ.

Idāni imissā yeva catuñāṇāya ñāṇadassana-visuddhiyā ānubhāva-vijānanatthaṃ,

Paripuṇṇa-bodhipakkhiya-bhāvo vuṭṭhāna-balasamāyogo,
ye yena pahātabbā dhammā tesaṃ pahānañ ca,

Kiccāni pariññâdīni yāni vuttāni abhisamayakāle,
tāni ca yathāsabhāvena jānitabbāni sabbānī ti.

Tattha paripuṇṇa-bodhipakkhiya-bhāvo ti bodhipakkhiyānaṃ paripuṇṇa-bhāvo. Cattāro satipaṭṭhānā, cattāro sammappadhānā, cattāro iddhipādā, pañc’indriyāni, pañca balāni, satta bojjhaṅgā, ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo ti hi ime sattatiṃsa dhammā bujjhanaṭṭhena bodho ti laddhanāmassa ariyamaggassa pakkhe bhavattā bodhipakkhiyā nāma. Pakkhe bhavattā ti upakārabhāve ṭhitattā.

Tesu tesu ārammaṇesu okkhanditvā pakkhanditvā upaṭṭhānato paṭṭhānaṃ5, sati yeva paṭṭhānaṃ satipaṭṭhānaṃ. Kāya-vedanā-citta-dhammesu pan’assā asubha-dukkha-anicca-anattâkāra-gahaṇavasena subha-sukha-nicca-attasaññā-pahānakicca-sādhanavasena ca pavattito catudhā bhedo hoti, tasmā cattāro satipaṭṭhānā ti vuccanti.

Padahanti etenā ti padhānaṃ, sobhanaṃ padhānaṃ sammappadhānaṃ, sammā vā padahanti etenā ti sammappadhānaṃ, sobhanaṃ vā taṃ kilesa-virūpatta-virahato padhānañ ca hita-sukha-nipphādakattena seṭṭhabhāvâvahanato padhānabhāva-kāraṇato cā ti sammappadhānaṃ. Vīriyass’etaṃ adhivacanaṃ. Tayidaṃ uppannânuppannānaṃ akusalānaṃ pahānânuppatti-kiccaṃ, anuppannuppannānañ ca kusalānaṃ uppatti-ṭṭhiti-kiccaṃ sādhayatī ti catubbidhaṃ hoti, tasmā cattāro sammappadhānā ti vuccanti.

Pubbe vuttena (XII.44) ijjhanaṭṭhena iddhi, tassā sampayuttāya pubbaṅgamaṭṭhena, phalabhūtāya pubbabhāga-kāraṇaṭṭhena ca iddhiyā pādo ti iddhipādo. So chandâdi-vasena catubbidho hoti, tasmā cattāro iddhipādā ti vuccanti. Yath’āha:

“Cattāro iddhipādā: chandiddhipādo cittiddhipādo vīriyiddhipādo vīmaṃsiddhipādo” ti. (vibha. 457)

Ime lokuttarā va. Lokiyā pana,

“Chandañ ce bhikkhu adhipatiṃ karitvā labhati samādhiṃ, labhati cittassa ekaggataṃ, ayaṃ vuccati chandasamādhī” ti (vibha. 432)

ādivacanato chandâdi-adhipati-vasena paṭiladdhadhammā pi honti.

Assaddhiya-kosajja-pamāda-vikkhepa-sammohānaṃ abhibhavanato abhibhavana-saṅkhātena adhipatiyaṭṭhena indriyaṃ, assaddhiyâdīhi ca anabhibhavanīyato akampiyaṭṭhena balaṃ. Tad ubhayam pi saddhâdi-vasena pañcavidhaṃ hoti, tasmā pañc’indriyāni pañca balānī ti vuccanti.

Bujjhanaka-sattassa pana aṅgabhāvena sati-ādayo satta bojjhaṅgā. Niyyānikaṭṭhena ca sammādiṭṭhi-ādayo aṭṭha maggaṅgā honti. Tena vuttaṃ “satta bojjhaṅgā ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo” ti.

Iti ime sattatiṃsa bodhipakkhiya-dhammā pubbabhāge lokiya-vipassanāya vattamānāya,

  • cuddasavidhena kāyaṃ pariggaṇhato ca kāyânupassanā-satipaṭṭhānaṃ,
  • navavidhena vedanaṃ pariggaṇhato ca vedanânupassanā-satipaṭṭhānaṃ,
  • soḷasavidhena cittaṃ pariggaṇhato ca cittânupassanā-satipaṭṭhānaṃ,
  • pañcavidhena dhamme pariggaṇhato ca dhammânupassanā-satipaṭṭhānaṃ,
  • imasmiṃ attabhāve anuppanna-pubbaṃ parassa uppannaṃ akusalaṃ disvā “yathā paṭipannass’etaṃ uppannaṃ, na tathā paṭipajjissāmi, evaṃ me etaṃ n’uppajjissatī” ti, tassa anuppādāya vāyamana-kāle paṭhamaṃ sammappadhānaṃ,
  • attano samudācārappattaṃ akusalaṃ disvā tassa pahānāya vāyamana-kāle dutiyaṃ,
  • imasmiṃ attabhāve anuppanna-pubbaṃ jhānaṃ vā vipassanaṃ vā uppādetuṃ vāyamantassa tatiyaṃ,
  • uppannaṃ yathā na parihāyati, evaṃ punappunaṃ uppādentassa catutthaṃ sammappadhānaṃ,
  • chandaṃ dhuraṃ katvā kusaluppādana-kāle chandiddhipādo…
  • micchāvācāya viramaṇa-kāle sammāvācā ti

evaṃ nānācittesu labbhanti, imesaṃ pana catunnaṃ ñāṇānaṃ uppatti-kāle ekacitte labbhanti. Phalakkhaṇe ṭhapetvā cattāro sammappadhāne avasesā tettiṃsa labbhanti.

Ādīnavânupassanā ti bhayatupaṭṭhāna-vasena uppannaṃ sabbabhavâdīsu ādīnava-dassana-ñāṇaṃ. Tena “kiñci allīyitabbaṃ na dissatī” ti ālayâbhinivesassa pahānaṃ hoti. Paṭisaṅkhânupassanā ti muñcanassa upāya-karaṇaṃ paṭisaṅkhāñāṇaṃ. Tena appaṭisaṅkhāya pahānaṃ hoti.

Vivaṭṭânupassanā ti saṅkhārupekkhā c’eva anulomañ ca. Tadā hi’ssa cittaṃ,

“Īsakapoṇe padumapalāse udakabindu viya sabbasmā saṅkhāragatā patilīyati patikuṭati pativattatī” ti (cf. XXI.63)

vuttaṃ. Tasmā tāya saṃyogâbhinivesassa pahānaṃ hoti, kāmasaṃyogâdikassa kilesâbhinivesassa kilesappavattiyā pahānaṃ hotī ti attho.

Evaṃ vitthārato tadaṅgappahānaṃ veditabbaṃ. Pāḷiyaṃ pana,

“Tadaṅgappahānañ ca diṭṭhigatānaṃ nibbedhabhāgiyaṃ samādhiṃ bhāvayato” ti (paṭi. ma. 1.24)

Yaṃ pana asani-vicakkâbhihatassa rukkhassa viya ariyamagga-ñāṇena saṃyojanâdīnaṃ dhammānaṃ yathā na puna pavatti, evaṃ pahānaṃ, idaṃ samucchedappahānaṃ nāma. Yaṃ sandhāya vuttaṃ:

“Paṭhamassa jhānassa lābhī’mhi, vasī’mhi, paṭhamajjhānaṃ sacchikataṃ mayā” ti (pārā. 203-204)

ādinā nayena āgatā paṭhamajjhānâdīnaṃ phassanā lokiya-sacchikiriyā nāma. Phassanā ti adhigantvā “idaṃ mayā adhigatan” ti paccakkhato ñāṇaphassena phusanā. Imam eva hi atthaṃ sandhāya,

“Sacchikiriyā-paññā phassanaṭṭhe ñāṇan” ti (paṭi. ma. mātikā 1.24)

uddisitvā,

“Ye ye dhammā sacchikatā honti, te te dhammā phassitā hontī” ti (paṭi. ma. 1.75)

Api ca attano santāne anuppādetvā pi ye dhammā kevalaṃ aparappaccayena ñāṇena ñātā, te sacchikatā honti. Ten’eva hi,

“Sabbaṃ, bhikkhave, sacchikātabbaṃ. Kiñ ca, bhikkhave, sabbaṃ sacchikātabbaṃ? Cakkhu, bhikkhave, sacchikātabban” ti (paṭi. ma. 1.29)

Dve bhāvanā abhimatā ti bhāvanā pana lokiya-bhāvanā lokuttara-bhāvanā ti dve yeva abhimatā. Tattha lokiyānaṃ sīla-samādhi-paññānaṃ uppādanaṃ, tāhi ca santāna-vāsanaṃ lokiya-bhāvanā, lokuttarānaṃ uppādanaṃ, tāhi ca santāna-vāsanaṃ lokuttara-bhāvanā. Tāsu idha lokuttarā adhippetā. Lokuttarāni hi sīlâdīni catubbidham p’etaṃ ñāṇaṃ uppādeti, tesaṃ sahajāta-paccayâdi-tāya tehi ca santānaṃ vāsetī ti lokuttara-bhāvanā v’assa kiccan ti. Evaṃ

Kiccāni pariññâdīni yāni vuttāni abhisamayakāle,
tāni ca yathāsabhāvena jānitabbāni sabbānī ti.

Ettāvatā ca,

“Sīle patiṭṭhāya naro sapañño, cittaṃ paññañ ca bhāvayan” ti

evaṃ sarūpen’eva ābhatāya17 paññābhāvanāya vidhāna-dassanatthaṃ yaṃ vuttaṃ:

“Mūlabhūtā dve visuddhiyo sampādetvā sarīrabhūtā pañca visuddhiyo sampādentena bhāvetabbā” ti (XIV.32)

taṃ vitthāritaṃ hoti. Kathaṃ bhāvetabbā ti ayañ ca pañho vissajjito ti.
